Poet Ahmad Faraz was born in Kohat, to Syed Muhammad Shah Barq. After moving to Peshawar with his family, he completed his studies in the famous Edwardes College, Peshawar and received Masters in Urdu and Persian from Peshawar University.
With having a circle of progressive poets like Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ali Sardar Jafri, he found himself inching towards the art of poetry and expression.

Sab kay waste laye hein kaprye sale se
Layehein mere liye qaidi ka kambal jail se
(He brought clothes for everybody from the 'sale', for me, he brought a blanket of a prisoner from jail)
